Our popular 'Let's Talk' series is back! Tamara Smith MLC hosts a panel on the future of tourism in a region loved to death.
Top tourist destinations in Australia and around the world are being loved to death. More, and more communities that host millions of visitors a year are crying out for a rethink and re-imagining of what tourism looks like, and are embracing First Nations tourism, regenerative tourism, slow tourism, and green tourism.
With climate change already disrupting the very experiences tourists seek as well as the livelihoods of visitor-based communities, the need to protect and preserve our most treasured places has never been more urgent. The impact of wealthy investors and celebrities moving into popular areas is also rendering many tourist towns devoid of homes and amenity for the people who live there.
So how do we strike the balance?
Join me and a panel of guests for a conversation around the challenges facing the future of tourism and the realities of living in a region being loved to death.
