WA’s regional towns and cities are being absolutely smashed by the housing crisis. From the devastating impact of AirBNBs on long-term rental markets to the explosion in house prices, it’s our regional communities that are copping some of the worst of it.
But as much as we should be able to rely on the Cook Labor Government to get us out of this crisis, after nine years in charge it’s clear that their priority is the real estate industry – not everyday Western Australians.
As your Greens WA spokesperson for housing and homelessness, I’ll be leading a panel conversation with local advocates, shire representatives, and members of the community with lived experience of housing insecurity.
We’ll be discussing the specific issues impacting housing in South West communities, and what needs to be done to meaningfully address the housing crisis. There’ll also be an opportunity to ask questions, as well as plenty of time to mingle afterwards.
It all kicks off from 5.30pm on February 10th at the River Hotel in Margaret River – hope to see you there!
The River Hotel is an accessible venue. Tea and coffee will be provided, and feel free to grab a pint or a feed at the bar!
