Organisers’ Book Club

Welcome!

The Organisers’ Book Club is for Greens Party members to learn more about organising, politics,  and how to make political change.

Book is decided by attendees of the most recent meeting. Recommended books should be engaging, not too dense or long, and connected to progressive politics and organising. None of these books are an endorsement of our views - we might even read things we disagree with!

Find us on Slack: Join the Vic Greens Action Network on Slack and join us in the #book-club channel - email members@vic.greens.org.au if you need an invite to the Slack

Book: First chapter of No Shortcuts: Organising for Power in the New Gilded Age by Jane McAlevey. Read it here.

About the book: Excellent outline of organising theory, strategy and tactics in a way that builds power. Explains the difference between  ‘organising,’ ‘mobilising’ and ‘advocacy’, arguing in favour of the former. It’s based on union organising in the US, but has heaps of critical lessons for organising in any context

Accessibility: This venue is accessible by wheelchair and has a wheelchair accessible bathroom. If forced inside by the weather, there will possibly be a high degree of ambient noise.

In-person only: This is currently only an in-person event. If you'd like to participate in or facilitate an online version of the book club, please email jon.kowski@vic.greens.org.au
